Video Production 01/31/2010

These next few weeks hold a lot of preperation development and production for myself and our production group. I am looking to produce a documentary that I have wanted to direct for a while now, and we are looking to produce a short comical piece on arranged marriage. I keep a seperate blog for all my development work on these projects http://lukeryder.wordpress.com

I am really looking forward to the next few weeks, even though it will involve restless nights slaving away filming, arranging shoots and contacting locations the joy comes with the end result when you have produced something your proud of.

With the christmas holiday definately over, I'm looking at plans for the next month or so, getting my creative juices flowing. This coming week I plan to meet with Riley and brainstorm a few idea's, Photography and Video. This year I want to produce a series of images about death, I also want to produce 2 or 3 documentaries on sub-cultures within britain. My portfolio needs some nice fresh images too so I shall be working hard to complete this. All in all this should be anohter fun filled year with a couple of expeditions and adventures chucked in.

Still waiting to get my hands on the new kit at University and once I do we'll get  the ball rolling. Everything I have produced up this day I have sat back and reviewed and realised I could of pushed myself further for a better end result, so this year thats what I plan to do, produce more polished professional pieces of work, but have fun on the way!

So keep an eye out for new works.

25-29th Nov heaven for food lovers.

This was my first experience of the Good Food show with thanks to the bbc.

With free food and drink samples on nearly every stall your never in fear of going hungry, and when you fancy something more substantial to eat then theres plenty of pig roasts, currys and wild buffalo on tap.

The stalls consisted of food, drink and kitchen appliances, special stages were the invention test, the masterchef experience, the magimix theatre, the british theatre, the drinks theatre, the taste workshops and grow your own food with NS&I.

A hand full of celebrities were mingling within the crowds such as Gordon Ramsay, Jamie Oliver, James martin and the Hairy bikers.

I must say I thouroughly enjoyed the show and I came away with an expanded knowledge on food and drink.

So I'm finally back at uni, this year already seems like its off to a better start, I havent wrote much on here recently because I've been here there and everywhere. I've produced a usic video for a local and which is still in edit, I've been to florida where I did a Uni Project and I'm currently trying to sort my car out.

So Ive uploaded a few snaps from florida but unfortunately I couldnt take my main kit out there due to weight limits and theres no way my nikons goin in my suitcase, so I litterally took a compact with me.

Congratulatons to all 3000 people that took part in the Half Marathon today around Coventry, the crowds tured out in their hundreds to show thier support and spirits were high. Photo's are now online here

Last night I decided to experiment with long exposures and different coloured lights, if any of you can figure out what lights I used I will be amazed. I happy with these selected shots, most of the are very random but there is one where i tried drawing an elephant.. see if you can spot it. These would look nice printed onto canvas as art pieces.

I am currently planning a local exhibition of my art photography none of which is up on this site, once I have more information i will post it on here.

I've only ever heard of a couple of the Sex Pistols songs mostly their famous ones like god save the queen, so when I went along to The Sex Pistols Experience I hadn't got a clue what I was in for! The night was kick started by Little Girl Screaming with immense drum beats and Theresa bouncing around the stage. The band really feel their music and it shows, you cant help but start bouncing that foot on the floor.

9:20pm The Sex Pistols experience appear on stage. Dr Martens boots everywhere, punky hairstyles, ripped trousers and string vests. The bands experience shows as from the word go your being pummeled with very clever one liners from Johnny Rotter.

Having never actually been to a Sex Pistols gig I cant say this is like the real thing but its got to be bloody close to it!
After a while into the gig you find yourself believing they are the real Sex Pistols.

Overall I found the night a great laugh, the band put on a great performance and if they ever come back to Coventry you'll probably find me there.

Today I got a great opportunity to go up in a cherry picker about 40 feet up to take some photos of a friends farm from above. This was my first attempt at a HDR image combining two images exposed at two different ends of the exposure. Im happy with it, see what you think :

So its 1:58am on monday morning, Im listening to myspace music tracks from performers I've just been photographing, I find it helps me concentrate when sorting through hundreds of images that I've just taken.

This weekends been a funny one, I was scheduled in to photograph an air display at Coventry Airport but I later found out from my insider that it was just classic flights that enthusiasts had booked so that was a disappointment.

My first photo of the weekend was an opportunity pointed out to me by a friend who rang me telling me to look out of my window so I did and behold...

Beautiful isn't it, if only the sky looked like this every night.

My next job was covering a couple of bands at Rosie Malones the first being Light Cascades and the second being Electric Slim who I have photographed before. Both sessions turned out nicely and I had no problems apart from immense smoke from light cascades but hey it added to the look they were going for.

The highlight of this weekend has to be The Music Against Racism Festival at the Albany Club. The festival brought the local community together using the form of music, the whole weekend had a brilliant line up including The Beat, back after performing in coventry 20 years ago. The Beat managed to fill the room to full capacity with the crowd cheering at every beat. But this festival didn't just welcome large bands, it encouraged local upcoming musicians such as Carly Ryder with her funny yet uncanny lyrics. This festival is a great addition to the local music scene in Coventry and would be nice to see once every 2 months or so. Overall this festival gets 8/10 in my books with lots of variety and a fun atmosphere; a great couple of nights out!
